The Origin

The $47,000 Mistake

In 2022, I was managing a small consulting project when a client sent me two contract versions: 'Agreement_v2.docx' and 'Agreement_Final.docx'. Exhausted after a 14-hour workday, I tried comparing them manually.

I missed a single clause change in Section 7 — a liability cap that went from $10K to $50K. That oversight cost my client $47,000 in a dispute six months later. I immediately searched for online tools to prevent this. But every solution I found had the same problem: good tools were expensive enterprise software, while free tools required uploading confidential files to unknown servers.

As someone who values both efficiency and privacy, I refused to accept this trade-off. So I built Compare2Word — a **free online diff checker** that runs entirely in your browser, and never touches your files.
