About Compare2Word

A simpler way to review what changed.

Compare2Word is an independent, browser-based tool for comparing document text and opening common file formats without installing desktop software.

Why it exists

Built for a focused job

Reviewing two versions should not require a complicated workflow. Compare2Word was created to make everyday checks—revised drafts, contracts, reports, spreadsheets, and copied text—quick to start and easy to read.

The tools compare extracted text or displayed cell values. They are useful for finding wording and data changes, but they do not reproduce every part of the original file. Page layout, styling, comments, tracked changes, images, formulas, and scanned text may not be included, depending on the format.

Document reading and comparison run in your browser with JavaScript and Web Workers. File bytes are not sent to a Compare2Word document-processing API. The site may use analytics and advertising services when enabled; our Privacy Policy explains that separately.

Keep document processing close

Files are opened by browser-based parsers, and comparison results are produced in the browser. The document workspace is masked from Microsoft Clarity content recording. See the Privacy Policy for the website data that analytics and advertising providers may process when those services are enabled.

Make the next step obvious

No account or desktop installation is required. Choose files or paste text, run the comparison, and review additions and removals in split or unified view.

Content verification

How product claims are checked

Coverage statements follow the current parsers. Core examples include downloadable inputs, checksums, and a visible verification date.

Describe the actual boundary

Document text, displayed table values, source code, and plain text are documented separately. Layout, formula definitions, and semantic understanding are not presented as existing features.

Publish reproducible samples

Core comparison pages provide their input files and expected changes so readers can inspect the source and reproduce the result locally.

Review and correct

Pages are reviewed when parsers or limits change. Reports of stale claims, broken samples, or unclear limits are welcome.

An independent product

Compare2Word is designed and maintained as an independent productivity product. The aim is modest: make common document checks faster, explain the tool's limits clearly, and improve the experience based on real use.
